Bubble World 大頭仔 (New Westminster)

I used to frequent the Marpole location of the Bubble World chain, but it has been years since my last visit. With all the new bubble tea restaurants popping up, I never thought about going back there or to any of their other stores. So it was with no surprise that deal vouchers were the only reason I went to the New Westminster location for lunch. The $6.99 voucher includes a set meal and a drink with pearls or coconut jelly, as well as the HST. I ordered the three sauce chicken (三杯雞) which came with a small bowl of rice, a side dish of pickled veggies and a greasy spring roll. The chicken wasn't very tender, but it was soft enough. The sauce was a bit salty though, so luckily there was rice to go with it. The side dishes were very disappointing. I had expected more than a few sour cabbage leaves and a veggie spring roll with an excess of chewy skin and almost no filling.

The Hawaiian fried rice (夏威夷炒飯) came with a lot of pork floss! I haven't had pork floss for a while, so I really enjoyed it. I just love the savoury flavour and fluffy texture of pork floss. There was the option to cook the rice with ketchup, but it was still tasty without. I thought there would be a bit more pineapple in there for a Hawaiian fried rice though.

I used to be obsessed with Bubble World's pearl milk tea. I thought it was the best in Vancouver. It has been a long while since I last had it though, and it seems like it was better in my memory. I'm not saying it was bad, but I prefer the one at Best Bubble Cafe.

All in all, it was a decent lunch for the cheap price of $6.99 per person. Regular prices are not that bad, but I'm not tempted to return because I wasn't very impressed with the food. I wonder if the Richmond location would be better. I think I'll eventually give it a try, but for now Best Bubble Cafe remains my favourite bubble tea place.
