Milestones (Denman)

July 31, 2010
Yesterday I went to a friend's birthday dinner at Milestones on Denman. All the buses along Davie have been rerouted due to the Davie Street Dance, and everyone was asking the bus driver for directions. It took half an hour just to get from Mainland to Denman, so I barely made it on time. When I got there with another friend Py, there were only a few other people there. We ordered an appetizer to munch on while we waited. We decided on the baked goat cheese and slow-roasted garlic flatbread ($8.99). It was surprisingly good. The garlic was especially interesting. The top of the garlic was cut off and seasoned with black pepper and other herbs. Beside it was a ball of smooth and rich goat cheese sprinkled with poppy seeds. There was also a salsa trio including roasted corn and onion salsa, spiced cranberry relish, and fresh papaya and roasted red pepper salsa. We were intrigued by the cranberries because they tasted sweet, sour, salty, and spicy at the same time.

I ordered a butternut squash ravioli ($16.99) for my entree. It was cooked in a tomato sauce with goat cheese, basil, and glazed pecans on top. The dish looked quite small, but was very filling.

After dinner, Py and I walked around in downtown. We were given tickets for free cover and a complimentary drink at Tunnel Lounge on Pender, so we decided to go and check it out. It was a small place, so we only stayed for a short while. The drink was good though :)
